Sponsored Challenges

We know there’s a lot of people who are motivated to support our work. We are always delighted to hear from anyone who is planning to take on a sponsored challenge to raise funds and awareness for Motivation.

Running

Runners in the London marathon
To keep our costs to an absolute minimum, and thereby provide more funds to our partners in developing countries, Motivation does not buy charity places in running events. However we are very happy to support anyone who chooses to participate in a marathon, half marathon or sponsored run in order to raise funds for Motivation. We can offer you a fundraising pack which includes ideas for raising sponsorship, personalised sponsorship and donations forms, and a dry-fit sports t-shirt.

Adventure Challenges

Mount Kilimanjaro

Motivate yourself to reach new heights! Climb Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, for Motivation.

To take part in this adventure you will be required to pay a registration fee, raise a minimum sponsorship and then start getting into shape! You will also have the opportunity to visit Motivation’s partner in Tanzania and see first-hand the projects that you will be helping to sustain.

"My volunteer experience in Tanzania gave me a taster of the big difference that Motivation can make, and now the charity-challenge concept has enabled me to combine two tough challenges to benefit Motivation's work."

Case Study

Three Peaks Challenge

When a group of lawyers from Vodafone Group Legal told us they wanted to run a challenge for Motivation, we had no idea just how motivated they were!

The Three Peaks Challenge sees teams climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in a period of 24 hours. Here, one member of the group tells us why they took on such an event:

16 lawyers, 3 mountains and a chopper evac –
The Vodafone Group Legal Three Peaks Challenge 2008

It’s 3.15am. I’m cold, tired, hungry and unwashed. I’ve had about 1 hour of sleep, and I’m about to start the brutal ascent of Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain. Why did we put ourselves through this? When my colleague suggested putting a Group Legal team together to tackle the Three Peaks Challenge, it seemed natural to take this on to raise money for Motivation, the international disability charity with which we have a close relationship.

So it was that a cosmopolitan band of 20 intrepid explorers set off from Newbury early afternoon on Friday 13th June (and yes, we know…), heading for Snowdon in high spirits. In hindsight, Snowdon was a walk in the (National) park. The weather was great, we had a fabulous view of the Irish sea, and even roamed onto the Vodafone Ireland network from up there!

After a quick dinner we headed off overnight to Scafell Pike, where this story started. Pitch black and then very misty, we had no idea what lay ahead as we marched off. It was quite simply an exhausting hill climb, with no break or relief either way. Tired but relieved, we piled back into the vehicles for the long slog up to Ben Nevis. The longest walk by far of them all, Ben Nevis was also the cruelest – false peak after false peak. As with Scafell Pike, coming down was, if anything, worse, although three of the group managed the fastest ever recorded Ben Nevis descent (assisted somewhat by the mountain rescue helicopter which took them half of the way when one of the team could not continue the descent - happily, no serious injuries were suffered and all are well).

Number of nationalities in the team: 11
Total height climbed: 3407m
Amount raised for Motivation: £11,823
Number of times “The Final Countdown” was played in the minibus: I lost count (and my will to live) after six

It was a tough challenge, but immensely rewarding. Planning and training started many months ago, and all team members had to put a lot of effort into the Challenge over many weeks, but the sense of achievement for all of us is immense. We had a lot of fun, raised a lot of money, took far too many photos, and learnt an awful lot about each other as a team and as individuals.
