In 1995 Oxfam set up a disability project
in Albania. They invited Motivation to address the issue of wheelchairs
suitable for the local environment. Motivation established a workshop
in a hospital in Tirana and worked on education material to help wheelchair
users learn more about aspects of their disability they had never been
taught.
We also ran our first ever Active Rehabilitation course for wheelchair
users, some of whom came from very remote mountain villages and had
never mixed with other wheelchair users prior to the course. It was
an outstanding success and the camp founded the Albanian Wheelchair
Basketball Team.
