Supportive seating

Motivation returned to the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed in 1998 to establish a supportive seating clinic for children with cerebral palsy. Supportive seating is essential for a child with cerebral palsy if they are to have a chance to develop and achieve even a basic level of independence. There was no specialist seating available to children with cerebral palsy in Bangladesh when Motivation returned in 1998.

Based in the previously established wheelchair workshop, Motivation introduced a supportive seating design, with CRP students trained to provide the assessment, prescription and therapeutic services essential for a child's development. An Ability Development programme was established to teach children and their families how to make the most of their new seating.

The project also included the creation of training manuals for future and current students and educational literature for parents.
