Four wheel chairs

Motivation's project in Nicaragua was initiated by the British Ambassador from 1994 to 1995, John Culver. Although there were two workshops making wheelchairs, they both requested Motivation's help in improving their respective wheelchair designs. Our project worked with both workshops to give each differing but new designs to produce, including an active style wheelchair, an orthopaedic wheelchair, a child's wheelchair and a wheelchair suitable for a rural environment.

As well as establishing a national distribution system, our distribution co-ordinator worked closely with Claudio Castro, a local wheelchair user and experienced trainer, to run education and mobility skills training throughout the country.

The local team who worked with Motivation later established a NGO called CADISCA. CADISCA now carries out both Active Rehabilitation training and wheelchair production training throughout Latin America.
