The International Federation of the Red Cross invited Motivation to produce wheelchairs to complement their spinal injuries project in the Marinescu Hospital, Bucharest. The workshop was set up in the basement of the hospital and a design very close to the Polish chair was introduced, as the circumstances and environment in Romania were similar to that of Poland.

The local team went on to form Motivation Romania, to improve the quality of life of wheelchair users throughout Eastern Europe. They have successfully taken our work forward and introducing further services such as driving tuition, computer training, a community centre and a contemporary dance programme for wheelchair users.

In 1996 a Motivation team returned to help run an active rehabilitation course teaching mobility skills and health education. Motivation Romania have again taken this forward and have since run active rehabilitation camps in Moldova, Albania, Bulgaria and Estonia.
