Motivation embarked upon a project in Russia
having been asked to address the needs of children with cerebral palsy
that needed supportive seating. After many months working in a school building,
the team were able to produce a seating system. It was based on a static
base for a classroom situation which was also transferable to a wheeled
base.
In Russia many people still have negative attitudes towards disabled
children, with mothers who chose to keep their disabled child often
finding themselves abandoned by their partners and family. Research
carried out by Motivation and our local partner HPSCF found little or
no information available for such parents. Motivation has therefore
continued to work in Russia and has helped to establish a support centre
for families of children with cerebral palsy.
