UK Design - Moti Activ

Supportive seating

In 1994 Motivation began to address the seating needs of children with cerebral palsy in Russia. A design and therapy team developed the Moti, a highly adjustable seating unit with lightweight chassis.

With funding from the Audi Foundation and the Virgin Healthcare Foundation and collaboration with the manufacturer, JCM Seating Solutions, the chair was developed for the UK market. The Moti Activ was born offering a new concept in special seating for children with cerebral palsy in the UK.

The Moti Activ offers good support with minimal obstruction. The seating unit can be detached from the chassis and mounted on to a variety of units, including a snowboard! It can be used in three or four-wheel mode. In three-wheel mode it can be used in an all terrain environment and in four-wheel mode it is more manoeuvrable and therefore suitable for children with the ability to self-propel.

The Moti Activ is designed as a flexible lifestyle product to appeal to both children and parents.

UK Organisation

Although the focus of our work is in low-income countries, Motivation could not operate at all without a solid, UK base. Thanks to a generous offer from a family near Bristol, Motivation moved into Brockley Academy in 1996. Built in 1808, the old school room has been given to Motivation rent-free for a further three years. Brockley Academy is our headquarters and houses a number of support staff in the following areas:

Operations (including new project research and development)

Project-funded design work
Fundraising
Finance
Administration

Technical Team

Brockley Academy also forms the headquarters of our Worldmade project activities.
