Motivation's three-wheel
wheelchairs designs are most in demand because they are more suitable for
rural and mountainous areas common to the majority of the population in many
developing countries. These wheelchairs are more stable and manoeuvrable over
rough terrain than a four-wheel wheelchair. Motivation also design tricycle
attachments for three-wheel wheelchairs to propel the wheelchair over long
distances.
Three-wheel wheelchairs have been designed and locally produced in Cambodia,
Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. They are taught on the Wheelchair Technologists
Training Course at TATCOT in Tanzania and the graduates produce three-wheel
designs in nine countries in Africa. The Worldmade
Rough Terrain wheelchair is a three-wheel design that is beign distributed
by our partner organisations across Asia.
