Capacity

"...many disabled people in Africa are ostracised by their relatives and the community. The governments and corporations only give lip service to the issue of the disabled."

Faustina Urassa, Kilimanjaro Association of Spinally Injured, Tanzania

Building the capacity of disabled people's organisations can be as important as the provision of mobility equipment itself. Meeting the needs of disabled people comprehensively for the long-term demands a high degree of professionalism and organisational strength. We help grassroots organisations achieve their aims by empowering them with the means and methods to become even more effective.

Abdullah Munish, wheelchiar Technologist, training staff from the Sandy Gall Afghanistan Appeal workshop, Jalalabad Tun Chunareth a Cambodian amputee disccusses new techniques with staff at his workshop in Siem Reap Cambodia.

Local workshop development, Sri Lanka. Working with local groups to help improve mobility equipment and develop management skills.

Skills transfer. A Professional Tanzanian wheelchiar technologist teaches his peers in Afghanistan how to produce better quality appropraite wheelchairs.

It is important to develop long-term partnerships and invest in key people to ensure sustainable projects.

By listening to what organisations really need, Motivation works with partners to enhance organisational competence and sustainability. Local organisations understand their needs better than anybody. But sometimes, they need support to develop in the way they deliver their products and services to disabled people.
