Macauley Dempsey, 15, from Bath, was born with a club foot which was amputated a few years ago. He started attending Motivation-sponsored wheelchair basketball club sessions in Bristol in July 2010. At his first session, he kept his prosthetic foot hidden and barely spoke a word. He was concerned that other people would find out that he was disabled.

Two months later, after a coach told him that playing with one leg makes you faster in a sports wheelchair, he hopped into training on one leg! The change in his confidence has been remarkable—the self-consciousness has disappeared and he’s now the most enthusiastic member of the club.
