"If we can keep innovation alive and thriving we have an even better chance of influencing the behavior of others and ultimately having the kind of impact required to deal with the scale of the problem. Innovation will lead us to achieving more." Richard, Motivation

The problems that Motivation has been trying to address for the last 25 years are on a massive scale – millions of people unable to afford, or access, a decent wheelchair.

Problems on this scale mean something has to change to make a difference. Change, however, does not happen without someone taking a risk and without innovation. From our roots in product design we have always been striving for change by using creative problem solving to do things better. More often than not pushing for change is incredibly challenging but when you get there it creates a sustainable long-term difference, which fundamentally changes people’s lives.

Great progress has been made in the last 25 years, and huge changes can be seen in the quality of wheelchair design and the services to deliver them. Whilst Motivation has played a leading role in influencing many organisations to embrace these exciting developments, it is nowhere near enough to combat the scale of the problem. More is needed.

Reflecting back on 25 years of work and we recognise the need for, and the value of, keeping innovation at the heart of Motivation. For us innovation is not just about products, it’s as much about the way those products reach the people who need them – it really is about the right wheelchair in the right way and everything that this entails.

If we can keep innovation alive and thriving we have an even better chance of influencing the behavior of others and ultimately having the kind of impact required to deal with the scale of the problem. Innovation will lead us to achieving more.

That is why we have decided to launch a brand new fundraising campaign to set up an Innovation Fund to secure investment in the next generation of wheelchair development. This dedicated fund will harness 25 years of experience shaping the world of global wheelchair provision to deliver transformative change through design innovation. With an uncompromising focus on the end user, the Innovation Fund will capitalise on advancements made in materials, technologies and manufacturing techniques to explore new ways to provide the right chair in the right way.

I hope that you will continue to follow our story as it unfolds over the next 25 years!
