News and stories News and blogs Making fashion accessible for all "For me, this has been all about fashion being accessible for everyone.” Photo (c) ASOS Motivation ambassador and para-athlete, Chloe Ball-Hopkins, has been working hard to make sure that everyone can go to festivals in style this summer. “Last July, I went to a festival dressed appropriately for the rainy weather. I had thought of everything – I took a waterproof hoody and plenty of layers to keep me warm and dry. But I was still cold and wet before the evening set in,” Chloe told us. “Wrapped up like that, I felt like someone’s granny who had been taken out for the day. And my boyfriend said that’s what I looked like too!” When Chloe got home, she decided it was time for a change – for people like her to have access to practical but stylish clothing. And she’s been working on it ever since. When I say people like me, I mean young people who happen to have a disability. “When I say ‘people like me’, I mean young people who want to enjoy festivals and other outdoor events but just happen to have a disability,” Chloe continued. “So my whole design has a jersey lining to make it comfortable and warm to wear. The zipped jacket is detachable so you can wear it on its own if you want to – but it also zips on to the waterproof trousers to make it into a comfortable, waterproof and stylish all-in-one! Practical, right?! “Another great feature of the design is the waterproof pocket on the breast, handy for phones or important medical information. “But here is the most important thing about this garment: it is not just for people who use wheelchairs. It is for everyone; I can wear it, my best friend can wear it, anyone can wear it.” Photo (c) ASOS Chloe is delighted to announce that fashion brand ASOS have worked with her on her design – and it is on sale this summer. “Once I knew what I wanted, I sent a few emails around but never did I expect ASOS to come back and say they would love to help!” Chloe told us. “Getting wet and cold is now a thing of the past for me – and festivals can be done in style!” For me, this has been all about fashion being accessible for everyone. We’re so proud to see Chloe’s garment online. Inclusive design has always been at the heart of our work and it is fantastic to have a vibrant young ambassador on board who shares our passion.
