With his confidence, independence and mobility restored, Kanagasundram can now concentrate on the future with his family.

Kanagasundram was working on his farm when he fell from a tree and broke his back, leaving him paralysed.

Like most of the people in his small village, Kanagasundram had always relied on physical labour to earn an income. When he wasn’t farming, he was travelling to the local market by bus so he could sell his produce.

He knew that his injury would have a devastating impact on his ability to provide for his family, so he began to feel depressed and hopeless about the future.

But before long, Kanagasundram attended a Motivation training course at a local rehabilitation centre.

The course was led by wheelchair users that were able to understand his experience and support him while he came to terms with his disability. They helped him learn new mobility skills and taught him about his rights.

After the course, he received a Motivation wheelchair with a clip-on trike attachment, helping him regain the mobility he needs to move around his farm.

The trike attachment provides Kanagasundram’s wheelchair with stability in rough terrain, and allows him to travel much longer distances with ease. Aside from the trike, his wheelchair has a quick-release mechanism that allows him to remove the wheels and fold the chair up, making it easy for him to travel to market by bus once more.

Since meeting Motivation, Kanagasundram’s life has changed for the better. He is much more active again, and is busy rearing cattle once more. He has also started growing crops in his garden, determined to provide vegetables for his wife and two sons.

With his confidence, independence and mobility restored, Kanagasundram can now concentrate on the future with his family.
