Protective footwear

Exploring 3D scanning in India

Conditions such as leprosy and diabetes are leading causes of disability in India and can result in people needing to use a wheelchair. Good quality, well-fitting pedorthic in-soles can prevent this, helping people to retain their mobility and independence by preventing nerve damage to the feet.

The Leprosy Mission Trust India (TLMTI) has received a grant from Google.org to test using cutting-edge 3D scanning technology to mill fully customised protective footwear for 2,000 people. This manufacturing process is very cost-effective and means that people get a high quality product that is truly tailored to their physical needs.

The principles are much the same as Motivation’s approach to wheelchair services and we are delighted to work alongside TLMTI on this project. Our experienced team in India are sharing their expertise in product production and helping to develop training packages for those prescribing and fitting the footwear to make sure that the service is of the highest standard.
